Brief
Magic Radio approached us with a challenge that resonated deeply: transform a well-loved but visually dated station into a magnetic, future-ready brand. The goal was to reposition Magic Radio as Malta’s go-to destination for “feel-good” music, connecting emotionally with an audience spanning young professionals, commuters, and busy parents. At the heart of the brand was one simple idea: music that brings back memories. We needed to strike a delicate balance, maintaining familiarity while delivering freshness. The brand had to be relatable yet elevated, nostalgic yet bold. In a competitive audio landscape, we set out to craft a brand identity that felt instantly iconic, emotionally rich, and unmistakably Magic.
How
We began by unpacking the brand’s emotional core anchored in nostalgia, feel-good energy, and memory-evoking music. Our strategic direction leaned into Magic’s role as a sonic companion to everyday life, crafting a visual language that captures this intimacy. Through workshops and competitor benchmarking, we redefined Magic’s brand pillars, Feel Good, Nostalgia & Memories, and Great Music into a cohesive identity system. Inspired by oscillating music waves, bold sans-serif typography, and retro-futuristic elements, we set the stage for a brand that feels both familiar and fresh. All design decisions, from type hierarchy to color treatment, were made to amplify Magic’s emotional resonance while future-proofing its on-air and digital presence.
What
The final identity is expressive and cohesive from a custom “M” monogram inspired by radio waves to a dynamic colour palette featuring Violet Echo, Solar Pulse, and Lunar Haze. We designed a bold wordmark and icon system that adapts across sub-brands like Magic Breakfast, Drive Time, and Live Sessions. Photography and UI mockups convey a sense of warmth and spontaneity, complemented by a modern yet approachable design system. The rebrand repositions Magic as a confident player in Malta’s audio scene inviting listeners, creatives, and advertisers to experience music that moves them. The result? A brand that doesn’t just play hits, but plays on heartstrings.
