Brief

Transport Malta commissioned a national campaign to deter people from drinking and driving during the festive season. With the goal of creating a shocking and thought-provoking experience, the focus was to make the audience realize the severe consequences of drunk driving. The ad targeted a broad B2C market, urging people to make better choices when celebrating with alcohol. The campaign was rolled out across various touchpoints including billboards, TV ads, bus shelters, and social media.

How

To execute this concept, we carefully selected three distinct, high-stakes scenarios: an interview, piloting a plane, and preparing for surgery. Each scenario begins with a high level of seriousness, but the protagonist unexpectedly holds an alcoholic drink, creating an awkward and jarring moment. The scenes escalate with a shift to the protagonist driving, eventually crashing to emphasize the shock of what happens when drinking and driving collide. The film’s style relied on a static, slow-paced camera to allow the audience to absorb each moment, with a minimalistic audio design that added gravity to each scene.

What

The campaign, filmed in real-world settings such as a boardroom, a plane cockpit, and an operating room, was intended to make the audience feel a personal connection to the protagonist. The absence of flashy animations and visual effects kept the focus on the raw message: alcohol and high-stakes scenarios don’t mix. The final moment, with a shocking crash, drove home the point that driving under the influence is just as reckless as attempting serious tasks while intoxicated.
